Report: Manny Ramirez will be joining the White Sox

According to the Los Angeles Dodgers' website Sunday night, the Dodgers are going to allow the White Sox to claim Manny Ramirez off waivers Monday.

It is not known if Ramirez is going to be with the Sox on Monday night, when they open a three-game series at Cleveland.

Ramirez would have to be wearing a White Sox uniform by Tuesday to be eligible for the postseason.

The report said it's a straight waiver claim, meaning the White Sox have to pay Ramirez's remaining $4.3 million salary for this season, although more than $3 million is deferred.

Ramirez was held out of the Dodgers' starting lineup for the fourth straight game Sunday, furthering speculation that he's heading to the White Sox.

Ramirez did pinch hit in the sixth inning Sunday, but he was ejected from the game after just one pitch for arguing with plate umpire Gary Cederstrom.

The most popular theory is the Dodgers have held Ramirez out of the starting lineup at the Sox' request so he doesn't suffer another injury. Ramirez already has been on the disabled list three times this season, most recently with a bad calf.

"I've never told a manager at any point in time who to play, who not to play," Los Angeles general manager Ned Colletti told reporters.

In 66 games with the Dodgers this season, Ramirez batted .311 with 8 home runs, 40 RBI and a .405 on-base percentage. He will be the White Sox' regular designated hitter.
