Kirk to pick up Cat exec's endorsement

PEORIA -- Senate candidate Mark Kirk is focusing on international trade.

The Republican plans to speak to employees at Caterpillar Inc. on Monday about foreign affairs and trade with Asia.

According to speech excerpts provided by his campaign, Kirk will declare that Asia is now more important than Europe to America's economy and security. He'll urge China to push Iran and North Korea to cooperate with the international community.

Kirk also expects to pick up the endorsement of Caterpillar chairman Jim Owens.

Kirk is battling Democrat Alexi Giannoulias for the Senate seat once held by Barack Obama.
