Just say no to Sen. Noland
This letter is in response to Pete Culver's Aug. 19 letter in which he tries to make the case that Sen. Mike Noland should be re-elected because he supports an income tax increase of 66 percent on working families in exchange for a swap on real estate taxes.
Does any right-minded person believe that this Democrat-ruled state government can be trusted to lower any taxes it confiscates or will they simply raise the income tax? Of course not. This one party ruled General Assembly first led by Gov. Blago along with his Chicago machine politicians will only be happy when they can reach in our pockets and take more of our hard earned income.
Since Noland was elected some 700,00 Illinois citizens have moved out of state, taking their money and productivity with them. Why? Because this state government is taxing us to death and making it harder for businesses to cope with new rules and regulations that have crippled our economy. Over the last five years this Democrat controlled General Assembly has passed unbalanced state budgets that are completely unconstitutional by borrowing money that's not there. They are passing this increasing debt to future generations with no end in site.
No, Mr. Culver, history teaches us that one party rule with no checks and balances leads to corruption and economic disaster. What we need to do is elect strong leaders with the courage to do the right thing today.
Steve Rauschenberger has not only proven himself as an expert on budget matters but has also been a successful business leader. What Mr. Nolan has proved is that he's very good at taking orders from his bosses in Chicago.
On Nov. 2 we need to just say no to Senator Nolan.
