Volunteers needed for adult tutor programs in Kane County
Many adults in the community struggle to read books, understand prescriptions, write checks or communicate with their child's teacher. If you are over 18 years old and are proficient in English, you can help change someone's life.
The Literacy Connection seeks and trains volunteers to tutor adults in Basic Literacy or English as a Second Language. No special education or knowledge of a second language is necessary.
Help a neighbor learn to read, write, speak and understand English. A free orientation for prospective tutors will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin. Training workshops will follow at the same location from 6 to 8:45 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 13-29.
For more information, contact the Literacy Connection at (847) 742-6565, e-mail info@elginliteracy.org, visit elginliteracy.org or attend the Sept. 8 orientation.
