What Labor Day means to labor
Few would disagree that creating sustainable jobs helps the economy and keeps taxes in check. Most would also agree that the number one issue facing our state is job creation and the economy.
So why did state Sen. Bill Brady (a 17-year career politician) vote against funding Gov. Pat Quinn's first capital construction plan, in 10 years? It offers 439,000 jobs. Why is Senator Brady against equal pay for equal work? And why does he want to lower the minimum wage on many already making less in a tough economy?
Brady thinks Illinois should be a "right to work state." Not bad for a millionaire who didn't pay taxes and favors right to work for less. For those of you unfamiliar with the term, right to work for less simply means a lot less pay and no benefits.
This Labor Day, please remember what this day means to organized labor. Think of those who have toiled before us. Opportunity is why many of us reside here. This year, in the toughest of times, Governor Quinn was able to broker the first capital construction plan in 10 years and has helped our state create 70,000 jobs and 6,000 in manufacturing.
Let's not gamble on Bill Brady. What we know is already alarming. And he has said he will not provide details about the state budget until after the election. Things are beginning to get better, please vote Pat Quinn for governor on Nov. 2.
