American Latinos need to speak up

Our federal and state and city governments have huge deficits. Unemployment stays high, and millions of legal Americans are out of work. All this while we have 12 million illegals taking our valuable jobs and draining our entitlement programs. We are being told by Latino activists that we are racist if we complain. We should be asking them when American Latinos will defend their fellow Americans and say enough is enough. We should ask them why they aren't fighting for strong border control.

Legal Americans, and that includes legal Latino Americans, are losing the benefits of what a well balanced community should offer. The illegal immigrant problem has grown to be a huge issue for this country. Elgin is the perfect example.

The only true figures that can show the population trends in Elgin and can be backed up with facts come from state of Illinois school report cards. It shows that 63 percent or 11,096 of Elgin's total school enrollment are low-income. Twenty-three of Elgin's 26 schools have 60 to 90 percent Hispanic enrollment. We spent $30 million teaching limited English, while our teachers were laid off, programs were cut, class sizes increased, and most importantly the quality of our children's education suffered. This isn't racist, they are the facts.
