Carpentersville man charged with child porn

A 27-year-old Carpentersville man has been accused of possession of child pornography.

Jose C. Herrera, of the 100 block of Golfview Court, was arrested at 5:45 a.m. Thursday after Carpentersville police and the Illinois Attorney General's office searched his apartment, police said.

Herrera faces one count of aggravated child pornography, a charge that carries a prison term of three to seven years or up to four years probation. His bond was set at 10 percent of $50,000 Friday and he is due in court on Sept. 9.

Carpentersville Police Cmdr. Timothy Bosshart said authorities seized Herrera's computer.

"(Officers) found a bunch of videos depicting sexual acts by kids under the age of 18 and many of them appear to be under the age of 13," Bosshart said.

Other than traffic violations, Herrera does not appear to have a criminal record in Kane County, records show.
