Scouting New Trier at Warren

New Trier (5-5) at Warren (8-3)

When: 7:30 p.m., today

Last season: Warren def. New Trier, 20-6.

Outlook: It's hard enough to prepare for the first opponent of the season, but this opener against New Trier presents an extra challenge for Warren. The Trevians will be playing under a new coach, Dan Starkey. Starkey replaced Matt Irvin, who went 11-10 in two years and led New Trier to two playoff appearances. "A new coach is such an unknown," Warren coach Dave Mohapp said. "It's such a challenge to be able to react to what they're going to do. And they've also got some good players back." - The Trevians bring back starting quarterback Benji Cohen and top receiver Charlie Tilson as well as Kevin Samuelson, the team's top returning rusher. "Those guys are going to be a real challenge for us," Mohapp said. - The Blue Devils will present their own challenge with senior running back Tom Lindal, one of the best runners in Lake County last year.
