Scouting Lakes at Perspective Charter-Calumet
Lakes (6-5) at Perspectives Charter-Calumet (7-2)
When: 4:15 p.m., Saturday at Stagg Stadium
Last season: Lakes def. Perspectives Charter-Calumet, 55-0.
Outlook: It's the Eagles' first trip to Stagg Stadium and they'll play a team seeking to avenge a lopsided loss on Opening Night last year. Like Lakes, Perspectives Charter-Calumet returns a lot of its 2009 team. "They had two guys who placed in the 100-meter dash," Eagles coach Luke Mertens said. "So we're expecting a lot of speed. And they return four of their five offensive linemen." What Mertens doesn't expect is a another easy win against the Chicago school. "I know we left a very sour taste in their mouth," Mertens said. "So they're pretty excited to get to play us again." Terry Jones is the school's new head coach. "We're not expecting last year," Mertens said. "It's a different team, a different program, and one that's planning to get us back." ... Lakes lost only seven starters, but included was star running back Andrew Tubek (Elmhurst College). James Zell replaces Tubek. The Eagles also return star kicker Mike Beckman.
