Scouting Johnsburg at Grayslake Central

Johnsburg (8-4) at Grayslake Central (4-5)

When: 7:15 p.m., today

Last season: Johnsburg def. Grayslake Central, 12-7.

Outlook: Grayslake Central coach Nick Goshe thinks that a win against Johnsburg last year would have sent his team to the playoffs for the first time since 2003. But getting a win over Johnsburg was no easy task for any team. The Skyhawks advanced to the Class 5A quarterfinals before losing to Richmond-Burton, 28-10-Big tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz is now gone, playing at Iowa, but Johnsburg still boasts some size on the line in Nicholas Plett and Kyle Johnson. "Any time you go as far as they did last year, you know they'll have kids who know how to win," Goshe said. "They're not going to be pushovers just because they lost some good seniors."-Goshe says that the difference in last year's game was turnovers. The Rams gained 220 yards to just 120 for Johnsburg. But Grayslake Central turned the ball over a couple of times and Johnsburg capitalized-The Rams will need a big game out of junior running back Joey Valdivia, who rolled up nearly 800 rushing yards last year as a sophomore.
