Wedge has interview with Hendry

Cubs general manager Jim Hendry met with former Cleveland Indians manager Eric Wedge on Wednesday night about the Cubs' managerial job, sources confirmed Thursday.

Wedge managed the Cleveland Indians from 2003-09, leading the Indians to the American League championship series in 2007. The Indians blew a 3-1 lead in that series and fell in seven games to the Boston Red Sox.

The 42-year-old Wedge compiled a record of 561-573 during his tenure in Cleveland.

The Cubs' managerial job became open July 20, when Lou Piniella announced his retirement, effective at the end of this season. However, Piniella decided to go home after Sunday's game, and Hendry named third-base coach Mike Quade the manager through the end of the season.

Quade will be a candidate for the permanent job, as will Cubs Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg, currently managing the Cubs' Class AAA farm club at Iowa.
