Who's paying for Blago defense?

I was wondering why no one in the media has corrected the statement made by Sam Adam Jr. about the taxpayers of Illinois paying for the defense of our state's impeached governor and convicted liar, Rod Blagojevich?

Adam said that the people of Illinois would need to pay Blagojevich's defense when he is retried on his alleged crimes.

As I understand it, Fitzgerald is an attorney for the United States of America, a federal attorney. Wouldn't this mean that Blagojevich committed a federal crime, therefore, the defense bill would be paid for by all the citizens of the United States, and not only the people of Illinois?

I, for one, am willing to pay my fair share in order that a real verdict be achieved on this matter, rather than accepting one person's inability to see the wrong because "... there was no smoking gun..."

Perhaps Blagojevich would choose a bench trial, where only the judge would hear the evidence and determine his guilt or innocence rather taking a jury of 12 people plus the alternates away from their families, as he claims that the federal government is doing to him. This would save everyone money, as the trial would be over more quickly and at less cost.

Is Blagojevich afraid to allow a professional, who knows the laws, to hear the evidence presented?
