Omaha police to arrest Ill. inmate in cold case

OMAHA, Neb. -- Omaha police say an Illinois prison inmate has been identified as a suspect in a 31-year-old killing.

Police detective Doug Herout says a fingerprint tip led investigators to 51-year-old Jerry Watson, who is being held on burglary and drug charges at a state prison in Joliet, Ill. Herout says Watson will be arrested in the 1978 death of Carroll Bonnet when he's released on parole next month.

Authorities have said the 61-year-old Bonnet was found naked in his apartment, dead of a single stab wound, with a note that read "die pig."

Herout say there's physical evidence linking Watson to the killing and Bonnet's car was later found in Illinois. He declined to give a motive, saying that would come out in court.
