County leads state in rabid batsMcHenry County is leading the state in the number of rabid bats found this year. Seventeen rabid bats have been reported in the county so far this year - matching McHenry County's 2009 total. Statewide, local health agencies had reported 68 rabid bats as of Aug. 13. Two Woodstock residents are being treated for rabies exposure after they woke to find the most recent rabid bat in their bedroom. For more information, visit cdc.gov/rabies.Charity pig roastSt. Peter's Lutheran Church in Pingree Grove is holding its annual pig roast fundraiser to keep the doors open to the 117-year-old church. The pig roast will be held from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at the church. It costs $10 to attend, and that includes a plate of food and games for the children. You'll also have a chance to tour the church with Pastor John Greve. Volunteers are needed to help unload electronics equipment such as computers, televisions, and telephones from the public's vehicles.
