Two dozen tall ships on display at Navy Pier
Chicago-area sailing enthusiasts, your ships have come in.
More than 20 historic ships will be on display at Navy Pier throughout the weekend as part of the Pepsi Tall Ships Chicago 2010 festival. Visitors can view all of these vessels and board up to 12 of them for crew-guided tours.
The ships hail from the U.S., Canada and Europe. They offer a vivid glimpse of the world's shipbuilding and seafaring past.
A basic admission ticket allows visitors to view the ships and enjoy the rest of the festival. For an additional charge, visitors can actually set foot on a number of the ships and receive guided tours. (Tickets for sailing trips are sold out.)
The festival, which got under way Tuesday, isn't just about the ships, though. The family-friendly event also offers arts and crafts displays, maritime exhibits, live music and a free fireworks show each night.
