Richard's blast keys Cougars past Snappers
Trailing by a run and down to their final out, the Kane County Cougars stunned the host Beloit Snappers when Myrio Richard belted a 2-run homer that lifted the Cougars to a 4-3 victory in Midwest League action at Pohlman Field.
The win kept the Cougars 11/2 games behind Clinton for the top playoff spot in the Western Division and put them 2 games ahead of Beloit for the wild-card berth with 12 games remaining.
Rob Gilliam (6-6) worked 2 scoreless relief innings to earn the win, and Josh Lansford posted his first career save with a scoreless ninth.
Flyers 10, JackHammers 6 (10): A four-run burst in the 10th inning propelled the Schaumburg Flyers past the host Joliet JackHammers in a Northern League contest at Silver Cross Field. Dylan Parzyk, Ruddy Yan, Brandon Newton and Chris Schultz all had singles to spark the Flyers' rally. Joey Gomes hit a homer in the fifth.
RedHawks 6, Fielders 0: Left-handed starting pitcher Scott Fogelson (7-3) scattered 5 hits and threw 7 scoreless innings to help lift host Fargo-Moorhead past the Lake County Fielders in a Northern League matchup at Newman Outdoor Field. Fielders starter John Brownell (3-8) held the RedHawks hitless through 52/3 innings, but walks and errors proved costly. The Fielders were led by Brian McFall and Anthony Esquer with 2 hits each.
