2 charged, 1 sought in Elgin robbery

Elgin police have arrested two Elgin men in connection with a robbery last week and were looking for a third Wednesday.

Authorities said the suspects robbed a woman at gunpoint shortly before 7:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at an apartment building on the 1200 block of Fleetwood Drive on Elgin's west side. No injuries were reported.

Police arrested Stanley R. Gallagher, 28, of the 400 block of Edison Avenue, and Demarquis S. Smith, 20, of the 300 block of Billings Street, earlier this week on armed robbery charges in connection with the incident. Police said an arrest warrant has been issued for a third suspect, identified as Darcy D. Bell, 24, of the 1100 block of Fleetwood Drive.

Gallagher and Smith appeared in bond court Wednesday, where bail was set at $75,000 each. They are due back in court Sept. 3.

According to court records, Smith has prior convictions for theft, burglary and cannabis possession. In January 2009, he was sentenced to four years in prison for a robbery in Elgin. Bell was convicted of domestic battery and sentenced in July to 18 days in jail and a year of conditional discharge. He also has two unrelated cases pending in Kane County, court records show.
