Kurtis, Jacobson return to CBS 2 Sept. 1

WBBM Channel 2 returns to the vaunted glory days of its top-rated "newsroom" format in the '70s by reuniting Bill Kurtis and Walter Jacobson as weekday co-anchors of the 6 p.m. newscast on Wednesday, Sept. 1. Media critics can laugh all they want, but Bill and Walter should play to the retirees and other older viewers who make up much of the TV audience at that hour.

Emmy timeThe prime-time Emmys are presented Sunday, Aug. 29, in Los Angeles in TV's 62nd annual award ceremony, to air live on NBC's WMAQ Channel 5 at 7 p.m. HBO's miniseries "The Pacific" leads all programs with 24 nominations. AMC's "Mad Men" tries to defend its award for best drama after leading all dramatic series with 17 nominations, ahead of "Breaking Bad," "Dexter," "The Good Wife," "Lost" and "True Blood." Fox's "Glee" tries to unseat NBC's "30 Rock" as top comedy after leading all prime-time series with 19 nominations, with "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "The Office," "Modern Family" and "Nurse Jackie" also in the mix.News 'Chaser' reduxAfter a bout with showbiz in the a cappella group Straight No Chaser, Dan Ponce returns to the news business as a general-assignment reporter with Channel 9 on Wednesday, Sept. 1. Ponce, son of WTTW Channel 11 "Chicago Tonight" host Phil Ponce, previously worked at WLS Channel 7 before trying his hand at a singing career. "I couldn't be more excited to join the WGN team," Ponce said. "I've had a blast performing with Straight No Chaser, but it's time for me to come home and get back to reporting in the country's best news town."Pure 'Dynamite'"Napoleon Dynamite" created a new sort of nerd chic when it burst forth from the festival circuit six years ago. Jon Heder creates a wicked dweeb parody so dryly accurate it's almost not funny. In fact, it has that effect on many people, but true Waste Watchers know quality, being dweebs themselves. It's at 9 p.m. today on MTV.False600400Jon Heder is "Napoleon Dynamite." False
