Cougars snap 3-game skid

Chris Mederos pitched 7 strong innings for the second start in a row Tuesday night, and Mike Gilmartin, Tyreace House and Conner Crumbliss each drove in a run as the Kane County Cougars cruised past the Quad Cities River Bandits 3-1 at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars snapped a three-game losing streak and a seven-game home losing skid.

Mederos (6-5) gave up a second-inning homer to Rainel Rosario, and that was the Bandits' lone run. Mederos yielded 4 hits, walked two and struck out seven. Jose Guzman recorded the final out for his 17th save.

The Cougars, like the Bandits, did all of their damage in the second inning. They scored 3 off Eric Fornataro (7-14). Anthony Aliotti and Leonardo Gil singled, and Max Stassi walked to load the bases. Gilmartin walked to tie it 1-1 House reached on an RBI infield single to make it 2-1, and Crumbliss notched a run-scoring fielder's choice for the 3-1 game.

Red Hawks 8, Fielders 4: Lake County starter Pedro Feliciano allowed 5 runs in two-thirds of an inning and the Fielders fell at Fargo-Moorhead. Cody Strait had 2 of the Fielders' 4 hits and drove in 2 runs.
