Benefit planned to help waitress injured in Randall Road crash

The folks at the Tilted Kilt in Elgin are rallying to help one of their own.

Waitress Amanda Jendro, who has been with the Randall Road restaurant since it opened earlier this year, recently was in serious car crash.

She was in a coma for several weeks. She is now awake, and starting the long road to recovery.

Her co-workers know that Jendro has been through so much already, and that she faces many challenges as she recovers, and wanted to do something to help.

To help offset medical costs and other expenses, they are hosting a benefit for Jendro and her family Thursday.

"All the girls here thought it would be great to do a benefit for her," co-worker Amanda Moreau said. "We just started working on it, figuring out how we could help her, and we put this together."

The benefit begins with a car wash from noon to 2 p.m. outside of the Tilted Kilt, 2300 Bushwood Drive.

Moreau said Tilted Kilt waitresses will be washing your car for you, with all donations going to Jendro.

The benefit will continue at 8:30 p.m. inside the Tilted Kilt, with an all-ages event in the Highlands Music Lounge.

There will be no cover charge, but instead employees will be collecting monetary donations at the door for Jendro.

From 9 p.m. to midnight, there will be music, with the band Rock of Ages playing, and a DJ Dance party to follow.

There also will be raffles throughout the night, with all proceeds going to Jendro and her family.

"We're already had quite a few people donate things from gift certificates to lawn items," Moreau said. "There are a lot of prizes because people just want to help."

Moreau said she's hoping the benefit will be a success for Jendro, because everyone at the Tilted Kilt really cares for her.

"Everyone's really close here and just supports each other. It's like a big family," Moreau said. "We're doing everything we can to help."
