NU basketball picks Ryan, Thompson as captains

Seniors Jeff Ryan and Michael Thompson have been selected the team captains for the upcoming season, Northwestern head men's basketball coach Bill Carmody Tuesday.

Te team is preparing depart Saturday for a 10-day tour of Italy.

"Jeff and Michael have proven to be tremendous leaders throughout their careers and have set a great example to their teammates," Carmody said.

Thompson has started all 95 games in the first three seasons of his Northwestern career. Ryan has seen action in 81 career contests with 22 starts.

Northwestern has finalized its game schedule for its trip to Italy. The Wildcats will play three contests against teams from the A2 League as well as one from the B1 league. NU departs leaves on Saturdayand is scheduled to return to Evanston on Sept. 7.
