Cougars lose lead late vs. Quad Cities

The Kane County Cougars saw two different leads slip away Monday night in an 8-6 loss to the Quad Cities River Bandits at Elfstrom Stadium.

Advantages of 2-0 and 6-3 were not enough, and the Cougars dropped their third straight and ninth in the last 11. With 14 games left, the Cougars now trail Clinton by 1½ games for the top playoff spot and are tied with Beloit for the wild card.

Conner Crumbliss (RBI double), Jose Crisotomo (RBI single) and Anthony Aliotti (2-run double) were instrumental in the Cougars' 4-run seventh inning that made it 6-3.

Then in the ninth Jose Guzman gave up a controversial 2-run homer to Robert Stock, who hit a shot down the right-field line that was ruled fair by the plate umpire. Two members of the Cougars were ejected for arguing the call.

Fielders 4, Fargo-Morehead 3: After falling behind 3-0 in the first inning, Lake County squeaked out a victory at Fargo, N.D. Guillermo Martinez's 2-run single in the fourth tied the game at 3-3. Cody Strait scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the eighth.
