Lake Villa motorcyclist killed in Round Lake Beach crash

Round Lake Beach police are investigating an accident that killed a Lake Villa man Sunday, officials said.

Gerald Bowerman, 51, of the 400 block of Deerpath Drive in Lake Villa, was driving his motorcycle at the corner of Cedar Lake Road and Meadow Lane when he ran into a minivan at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday evening, said Lake County Coroner Richard Keller.

He was transported from the accident scene to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he died at about 9:15 p.m. Sunday night, Keller said.

Round Lake Beach Deputy Police Chief Rich Chiarello said the van was heading north on Cedar Lake Road at 4:46 p.m. and attempted to turn left onto Meadow Lane. He said the van turned in front of the motorcycle, which was heading south on Cedar Lake.

Keller said the cause of death was severe head trauma. It remains unclear if Bowerman was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

He said officials are still awaiting toxicology reports and that additional details would be released after those test results are available.

Chiarello said the Major Crash Assistance Team was called in to help investigate the accident.
