Your news: Victorian era fashion on display in Palatine
Experience the vision of elegance and grace in beautiful Victorian era gowns at the Palatine Historical Society's Clayson House Museum.
See the society members' favorite gowns - including a gown designed by Charles Worth - on display. They're sewn of fine silks, satin and velvet and are lavishly trimmed with frills, flounces, lace, braid, even fringe, beads and feathers.
The fashion conscious Victorian lady created this look of elegance with a combination of discomfort and inconvenience with frivolous and decorative arrays of ornately accented backs, collars and trains. These details can best be appreciated when seen in person.
Also enjoy the accessories which were worn, the shoes made just to be worn only indoors, the beaded purses and ornately embroidered shawls and a lace opera cape.
Stop by and view the gowns at the Clayson Museum, located at 224 West Palatine Road (between Northwest Highway and Oak Street).
The Museum is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. For visitor information and directions, call (847)-991-6460.
The Palatine Historical Society is a nonprofit organization serving the Palatine community since 1955.
