Man gets year in prison for heroin sale
A Chicago man was sentenced to one year in jail Monday for selling heroin to undercover police officers.
David Fon, 27, was arrested July 9, 2009 by officers of the Wheeling Police Department.
Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Scott Hoffert said Fon negotiated the sale with the undercover officer and set up a meeting on the Lake County side of the 1400 block of Lake-Cook Road.
Fon arrived for the meeting around 8:40 p.m., Hoffert said, and got into the undercover officer's car.
Fon handed the officer 4.4 grams of heroin in exchange for $260 and was taken into custody immediately, Hoffert said.
Fon was originally charged with delivery of a controlled substance, an offense that carried a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
However, Hoffert said he agreed to reduce the charge against Fon to possession of a controlled substance in exchange for the guilty plea.
If convicted of the new charge after a trial, Fon would have faced a maximum of three years in prison.
