Convicted robber held on charge he struck again in Arlington Heights
A 46-year-old Chicago man who served two stints in prison for robberies during his 20s was ordered held on $75,000 bond Saturday on felony charges that he tried to hold up a currency exchange in Arlington Heights earlier this month.
Police say a tip received Thursday by Arlington Heights Crime Stoppers led to the arrest of Steve G. Carter, who lives in the 4000 block of St. Louis Street, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Moe Ahmad.
The attempted robbery occurred about 9 a.m. on Aug. 1 as a female employee was opening the Algonquin-Wilke Currency Exchange, 1764 W. Algonquin Road. The robber shoved her, grabbed her hair, said he had a gun and forced her to open the door.
Police said the woman managed to slip through the door by herself, close it and escape out a rear door to a gas station.
The victim identified Carter as the man who tried to rob the currency exchange, Ahmad said. Judge John J. Scotillo set a 9 a.m. Sept 13 court date for Carter in courtroom 108 in the Rolling Meadows Courthouse.
