Chicago man charged with trafficking women in Elk Grove Village

A $75,000 cash bond was set Friday for a Chicago man accused of forcing three women into prostitution for his own profit, Cook County sheriff's police said.

Troy Bonaparte, 45, of the 8000 block of South Ridgeland, is charged with one count of involuntary servitude, a Class X felony; one felony count of trafficking of persons for labor or services; one count of unlawful restraint; one count of pandering; and two counts of possession of a controlled substance - heroin and cocaine.

Bonaparte previously has been arrested 55 times, and has nine convictions for offenses including pimping, manufacture and delivery of cocaine, possession of a stolen vehicle and theft.

Among the places Bonaparte used to traffic women is an Elk Grove Village motel, police said.

The Cook County sheriff police vice unit arrested Bonaparte after responding to a suspicious advertisement posted on the "Escorts" section of the website Backpage.com. The ad contained solicitations such as "Sexy Crystal is here to please and pamper you," "Call me before 1 a.m. and get your discount," and "Girlfriend experience."

Upon responding to the ad, police were directed to an Elk Grove Village motel where they discovered Bonaparte was operating a prostitution ring through coercion, police said.

Detectives determined three women were under Bonaparte's control - two in the same motel, and another at a nearby facility. The victims were 19, 24 and 30 years old. Two of the women are from out of state, and the third is from the Chicago area.

Police said some of the women had been forced to work for Bonaparte for months, while others were more recent victims. They said Bonaparte recruited his victims off the streets - one woman was homeless at the time he found her.

Bonaparte controlled the victims and forced them to prostitute themselves through the threat of physical violence, police said.

Bonaparte was out on bond from a June 24 charge of soliciting for a prostitute before his latest arrest. In the June 24 case, Bonaparte tried to recruit an undercover officer on Mannheim Road to work for him as a prostitute, police said.

The victims are currently in a safe location provided by the Sheriff's Department of Women's Justice Services.

Bonaparte is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 9 at 26th & California.
