Mundelein man denies selling cocaine
A Mundelein man pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges he sold cocaine to undercover police officers on four different occasions.
Assistant State's Attorney Reginald Matthews said one of the transactions took place within 1,000 feet of two churches, mandating a mandatory prison sentence upon conviction.
Matthews said Roberto Olan, 41, sold close to 12 grams of cocaine to an undercover agent of the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group in the 1300 block of Maple Ave. on March 18.
The exact location is within 1,000 feet of The Church of the Nazarene and Calvary Church, Matthews said, mandating a prison sentence of between six and 30 years if Olan is convicted.
Olan also is charged with selling around 3 grams of cocaine to the agent in a parking lot on Lake Street on both May 13 and May 19, Matthews said.
Olan was arrested May 20 after police said he sold another 7 grams of cocaine in the same Lake Street parking lot.
A search of Olan's house in the 400 block of Shadydell Lane following his arrest turned up another small amount of cocaine, some drug paraphernalia and $328 in cash, Matthews said.
Circuit Judge Fred Foreman scheduled a trial of the case for Nov. 8 and ordered Olan, who is free after posting $5,000 for bond, to appear in court again Sept. 21.
