Blago: Senate seat talk was legal 'horse trading'
In his first round of interviews since his trial ended, former Gov. Rod Blagojevich said he has done nothing wrong and that U.S. Attorney's could not prove any of the corruption charges brought against him and his brother.
He also called for U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald to not seek a retrial against him or his brother because the money being spent on a second trial should be spent on prosecuting real criminals.
Blagojevich appeared on the Today show just before the 7 a.m. hour, then called in to WLS AM at 7 a.m.
He once again called for government attorneys to release all the evidence they compiled against him, as well as tell the country how much money the government spent trying to prosecute him.
"I said to the people of Illinois that I didn't let them down, and I didn't." he said. "If we have to do it again, then we'll do it again."
Blagojevich also said he didn't take the stand in his own trial like he wanted to because prosecutors did not prove in court that he did anything wrong.
"They didn't prove any corruption against me," He said on WLS AM. "(Blagojevich's attorney Sam Adams Jr.) and I wanted to go forward and testify. I wanted to testify. Next time around, I fully expect to testify."
He added prosecutors made deals with witnesses to get them to testify to untruths about him. Then, U.S. Attorney's charged him for brainstorming and political horestrading to get deals done in politics.
"The reality is that I did nothing wrong. I did no wrong. This is a persecution," he said. "The money they have spent so far should be spent on real criminals."
The media blitz continues in the coming days with plans to appear on the Daily Show on Comedy Central, as well as an appearance on Fox News, its been reported.
