Moore named UIC's new basketball coach

UIC has hired Wisconsin assistant Howard Moore to succeed Jimmy Collins as basketball coach.

Moore, 37, a Chicago native and 1990 Taft High School graduate, played at Wisconsin in the early 1990s and served on Bo Ryan's staff for the last five seasons.

Between his stints in Madison, Moore worked at Bradley (1999-2003), Ball State (2003-04) and Loyola (2004-05). He developed a reputation as a strong recruiter.

Wisconsin has two scholarship players from the suburbs on its roster with Benet's Frank Kaminsky and Brooks' George Marshall slated to sign letters of intent in November.

Moore inherits one of the better jobs in the Horizon League, though the Flames went 8-22 last season.

UIC retains three starters and welcomes seven new scholarship players this fall - a group that includes senior forward Paul Carter from Minnesota and four junior-college transfers.
