Woman fights off robber in Arlington Heights
A woman was able to fight off a robber before escaping out the back door of a currency exchange early Wednesday, according to Arlington Heights police.
"She put up a good battle with this guy," said Cmdr. Kenneth Galinski. "She ended up seeking medical attention for some scrapes and was taken to the hospital."
The robber tried to get into the Algonquin Wilke Currency Exchange, 1764 W. Algonquin Road, at about 9 a.m. Wednesday by following the woman who was opening the store. He pushed his way in, demanded money and told the woman he had a gun. However, the woman was briefly able to fight off the man before she escaped out the back door. She called police from a nearby gas station.
According to Galinski, the robber is described as being an African-American male between 35 and 45 years old. He is between 6-feet and 6-feet-two-inches tall, bald and wearing a gray-blue T-shirt and blue jeans.
