Express lane coming during I-355 work
Workers are shifting traffic patterns in the northbound lanes of I-355 between Butterfield and Army Trail roads this week, which will create an express lane for motorists in the far left lane.
The shift will be in place for about two weeks as workers make repairs to the center lanes while keeping three lanes of traffic open. The work is expected to begin Friday, but the shifts may occur earlier. Motorists who use the express lane won't be able to exit the interstate until Lake Street, Illinois Tollway officials said.
A similar southbound configuration is planned in September as workers resurface and repair parts of the interstate between the I-88 junction and Army Trail Road. They are also doing similar work to the south between 75th and 83rd streets.
The work zone speed limit of 45 mph will remain in effect for all lanes.
