COD needs Glen Ellyn's oversight

College of DuPage President Robert Breuder is having trouble interacting with his neighbors. He is spending valuable resources fighting Glen Ellyn because he apparently does not believe the college is answerable to any governing body.

These recent legal battles are the result of unprecedented growth at COD. Mr. Breuder stated that conflict has been ongoing over many years - but he has only been president for 20 months. Before that we had Sunil Chand, who left after contentious personnel issues. My point is there obviously needs to be some kind of check and balance on activities at COD when they involve the neighborhood and tax dollars.

Mr. Breuder is upset that the village hires consultants to examine the plans of the college to determine the impact these plans will have on the residents who live near the college and then passes those costs on to the college. Would he prefer a collection be taken up from the affected neighbors to finance their own protections?

We, the property owners, fund all this expansion and tree planting and sign posting at the college. Why should our interests not be represented by an oversight committee called Glen Ellyn? Once something is done it usually stays done ~ no matter how bad of an idea or whom is effected by the construction. My father taught me to measure twice and cut once ~ in government we call that zoning committees.

Mr. Breuder might be thinking that Wheaton would not represent the neighbors and let him do as he pleases but my experience with Wheaton is that they take their responsibilities just as seriously as does Glen Ellyn. And all this fighting is costing us, the taxpayers, a ton of money.
