The Bliss is back: Lingerie Football League games to air on MTV2

Justin Bieber is moving over for scantily-clad women with shoulder pads, as MTV2 has announced it will televise Lingerie Football League games.

League officials announced the TV contract today (Tuesday), which includes Friday regular season games and playoffs.

Locally, the Chicago Bliss play its games at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates and last year finished the league's inaugural season by losing in the Lingerie Bowl championship game.

Players contend they're serious athletes playing full-contact football, although their skimpy uniforms have made games popular bachelor party destinations.

MTV2 was started with a focus on playing music videos, something the original MTV strayed from as reality shows like "The Real World" and "Jersey Shore" gained focus. The sibling network's sports coverage includes BMX biking and celebrity charity softball and basketball games in its "Rock N Jock" series.

They'll start airing LFL games on Sept. 3. Games were previously only available over Internet streaming.

The LFL's 20-game regular season schedule starts Aug. 27 and ends Jan. 21. The five teams each play four games, two home and two away.

Four teams make the playoffs, concluding with the championship game.

In its inaugural season the Bliss were one of the bigger draws to the Sears Centre, making them one of the more successful teams for the league. League officials trotted out former Bears coach Mike Ditka before the first Bliss game last year for publicity.

League officials said they wanted to expand the schedule this second season, which starts for the Bliss at home on Sept. 10 vs. the Dallas Desire, which will be televised.

However, just like last season the Bliss will again play only two regular season home games and another pair on the road. The other home game is Nov. 13.

Not all teams were as successful as the Bliss. The league's New York team last year had to cancel games because of problems securing a venue.
