Des Plaines man pleads guilty in stabbing case
A 19-year-old man who police say lured a romantic rival to a Des Plaines home to kill him pleaded guilty to aggravated battery with a weapon last week and was sentenced to five years in prison.
In exchange for his guilty plea to the class 3 felony, prosecutors dropped attempted murder charges against Tomas Berrum, who police say stabbed another teen last February following a dispute over a woman.
Police say Berrum, of the 2000 block of Pine Street in Des Plaines, thought his girlfriend was cheating on him with the victim, who survived his injuries.
Berrum, who received supervision last year for unlawful possession of cannabis, received credit for the 180 days he has spent in custody since his arrest.
