Blago lawyer 'encouraged' by long jury deliberations
Rod Blagojevich attorney Sam Adam Jr. said this morning that he's "encouraged" by the jury's long deliberation.
Jurors on Tuesday began their 14th day of deliberations - about half the length of the trial. It's the longest deliberation Adam Jr. said he's ever had in his career, with the longest before this being four days.
Court currently is convened for hearing of a jury question. Former Gov. Rod Blagojevich and his brother and co-defendant Robert Blagojevich are not in court, but Judge James Zagle asked them to be available by phone.
When Adam Jr. was asked if some of the jurors are fighting for his client, he responded, "Hopefully, it's more than one person."
Adam Jr., who's dropped 32 pounds since the trial began, said Blagojevich has been passing the time at home, running, spending time with his close-knit family, and "praying. A lot of praying."
He likened the trial to a made-for-TV movie, with the suicide of former Blagojevich aide Christopher Kelly, a burglary at his law office, illness (his mother was diagnosed with cancer) and a team of a dozen lawyers sifting through 5 million pages of documents.
He also praised the jury, saying it has done its job no matter what the outcome.
