4 years for Aurora man who threatened former girlfriend

An Aurora man has been sentenced to prison for threatening in a voice mail to kill his ex-girlfriend, prosecutors said.

Andrew M. Talley, 21, of the 700 block of Nantucket Road, pleaded guilty Friday to one count each of telephone harassment and violation of an order of protection, the Kane County state's attorney's office said. Associate Judge Robert Murrow sentenced him later that day to four years in prison.

Prosecutors said Talley was under court order to avoid contact with the victim when, on Feb. 10, he left the Sugar Grove woman a voice mail saying he had been close to killing her upon his release from the county jail the week before and that he "wanted to look her in the eyes when he killed her."

Authorities said the victim had been granted an order of protection in August 2009 after Talley called her 55 times within 16 hours.

Murrow cited Talley's criminal history, which includes two prior convictions for telephone harassment involving the same victim, in sentencing him.

By law, Talley must serve at least two years. He was given credit for 159 days served in the county jail.

"This sentence was possibly largely because of the solid and detailed work of Sugar Grove Police Officer Maria Durham and Sugar Grove Police Investigator John Sizer," Assistant State's Attorney Jamie Mosser said in a statement. "They were quick to respond to the needs of the victim and to document all of the harassment she has endured at the hands of the defendant."
