Martinez lifts Flyers in ninth
The Lake County Fielders scored 4 runs in the ninth inning to defeat the host Gary RailCats 6-5 on Saturday.
Cody Strait and pinch hitter Juan Valdes had RBI singles to tie the game at 5-5, and Guillermo Martinez followed with an RBI single to put give the Fielders a 6-5 lead.
Alec Lewis worked 62/3 innings for the Fielders, giving up 2 runs (both earned) on 5 hits with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts.
Chiefs 4, Cougars 3: The Kane County Cougars' offense had 12 hits and saw the leadoff man reach in seven straight innings, but it also stranded nine runners and went 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position in a loss to Peoria before 12,822 at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars have lost three straight and are 6-7 against Peoria this season.
Flyers split doubleheader: The Schaumburg Flyers split a doubleheader with the Joliet JackHammers at Alexian Field. Joliet won the opener 10-9 in the completion of a game that was suspended Friday, and the Flyers took the second game 5-0.
Bandits 3, Pride 1: Rachel Folden had a solo home run, leading the Chicago Bandits to a victory over USSA Pride before a crowd of more than 5,000 at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas. Folden also had a double in the first inning. The Bandits' Kristina Thorson was relieved by Nikki Nemitz in the sixth inning after giving up 1 run on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts. Nemitz recorded her fourth save of the season with 2 innings of relief.
