Innovative plan for solving fiscal crisis

A reliable source within the governor's staff has confirmed that Gov. Pat Quinn will soon designate Lake Michigan beach pebbles as legal tender in the state of Illinois.

The value of the beach pebbles will be according to their weight, with one pound equaling one U.S. dollar. Appropriately, the new money will be designated the Illinois Pound, or LIL.

The LIL will initially be used to pay off Illinois debts and fund underfunded state pension plans, thereby freeing up U.S. dollars to pay for other things.

Critics who deride this plan by saying it is not fair to Illinoisans not living near the lake miss the point that the resulting stimulus will create economic benefits for all the residents of Illinois.

We should commend our governor for this innovative and resource-conserving plan to solve our fiscal problems.
