Elgin police probe shooting of Hoffman Estates man
Elgin police are investigating the Friday night shooting of a 22-year-old Hoffman Estates man.
The victim, whose injuries aren't life-threatening, was struck once in the leg and once in the abdomen around 11:15 p.m. in the area of Sherman and Arlington, Lt. Glenn Theriault said.
The victim and a friend drove to Elgin to visit his girlfriend, Theriault said. Shortly after parking their vehicle, they were approached by a man who fired a small-caliber handgun in their direction without saying anything.
The gang unit is investigating the incident, though the victim and witness deny being involved in gangs. Neither could articulate why someone would want to shoot either of them, Theriault said.
The victim is being treated at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
Police describe the suspect as a male in his mid-20s, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a medium build and shaved head.
