Viciedo sent out; Teahen headed back to Sox

Manager Ozzie Guillen admires the way 21-year-old Dayan Viciedo has handled himself since joining the White Sox from Class AAA Charlotte on June 18.

"This kid, I don't think it's the same case you see with the other Cuban players," Guillen said. "This kid was on the (Cuban National) team since he was a baby and they took care of him very well back there. I talked to him a lot.

"He's the type of guy, when you talk to him he knows what he's doing; he knows what he wants. He's kind of a different type of guy that comes from Latin America the way he's involved with himself."

Handling life in the major leagues is one thing; being a productive player is quite another.

Viciedo was sent back to Charlotte after Thursday night's 6-1 loss to the Twins, and Mark Teahen is expected to be activated off the disabled list before tongith;s gsame against the Tigers.

Viciedo went 0-for-4 Thursday, extending his hitless streak to 15 at-bats. Also, Viciedo hasn't walked in 82 at-bats.

Teahen coming back: Mark Teahen was 0-for-3 with 2 strikeouts Thursday in his final rehab appearance with Class AAA Charlotte.

In 11 games, Teahen batted .364 with 4 RBI.

Having lost his starting job at third base to Omar Vizquel, Teahen is going to play a utility role with the White Sox when he returns.

Teahen was in right field Thursday night, a position he often played with Kansas City. Defensively, he'd be a marked upgrade over Carlos Quentin, who might be better utilized at designated hitter.

Less play for A.J.? Backup catcher Ramon Castro has been getting increased playing time, and that figures to continue down the stretch.

"The next couple weeks I think I'm going to use Castro more, just because of the heat, day games after night games," Ozzie Guillen said. "We will put Castro in the lineup."

Regular catcher A.J. Pierzynski has been struggling with the bat all season, and he still has a low average (.237) after going 3-for-4 Thursday.
