Horse destroyed, jockey OK after Erie track spill
ERIE, Pa. -- Officials at Presque Isle Downs & Casino in Erie say a jockey was not seriously hurt, but a race horse had to be destroyed after it fractured a leg and threw its rider during a race.
Jon Moss is the associate executive director of the Pennsylvania Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association, which represents horse owners and trainers at the track.
He says the horse, Cosmic Warning, was euthanized on the track after the accident during Wednesday night's fourth race. Moss says jockey Huber Villa-Gomez wasn't seriously hurt and should return to racing Saturday night.
The jockey has 45 wins since the racing season began May 7, making him one of the top riders at the track.
