Cubs reinstate Lee, send Hoffpauir down

ST. LOUIS -- The Chicago Cubs today reinstated infielder Derrek Lee from the bereavement list and optioned infielder Micah Hoffpauir to Triple-A Iowa.

Lee was placed on the bereavement list Tuesday and did not play in the four-game series earlier this week in San Francisco. He is batting .246 (100-for-407) with 20 doubles, 12 home runs and 52 RBI in 106 games with the Cubs this season.

Hoffpauir was recalled from Triple-A on Tuesday to take Lee's spot on the roster. Hoffpauir saw action in three games this week and went hitless in seven at-bats. He returns to Iowa riding an active 18-game hitting streak at the Triple-A level, where overall this season he is batting .273 (106-for-388) with 32 doubles, 20 home runs and 87 RBI.
