Show some heart, Kane county board

The upcoming vote of the Kane County Board to possibly slash needed services for the thousands of disadvantaged citizens of Kane County, mostly women and children, is reprehensible.

The director of Kane County Health Department is fooling the county board into thinking that they can cut these important services without it having an impact on the overall health of the community because other agencies will step in. These other service providers in the community are already swamped and it's unlikely that they could absorb the additional thousands in clients with current staffing. The director has publicly stated that once the county gives up providing these services, they are not coming back.

These services are not tangential to the mission of a county health department. They are crucial services that literally go to the heart of maintaining a modest standard of community health. I hope the county board shows more courage and heart than the health department director.
