Wadsworth garage fire claims farm animals

No human injuries resulted from a garage fire that erupted in Wadsworth late Tuesday, but two small farm animals perished, authorities said.

Officials from the Newport Fire Protection District announced in a release they were summoned at 11:25 p.m. Tuesday to the garage blaze in the 13000 block of Taylor Lane. They said the two-car garage and an attached pole barn were fully involved in fire along with two automobiles.

Without providing detail, officials said the two small farm animals died in the fire. The structure and the cars were considered a total loss.

Newport Township received assistance at the scene from the Beach Park, Winthrop Harbor, Waukegan and Zion fire departments, as well as Lake Villa Rescue Squad.
