State Fair limits politicians at parade
SPRINGFIELD -- The Illinois State Fair is kicking some politicians out of its parade lineup.
Organizers told lower level politicians to stay out of Thursday evening's Twilight Parade so that it wouldn't take as long. Gov. Pat Quinn, statewide officers and their opponents in the November election were still allowed to sign up.
Organizers say reducing the number of entries this year will cut the parade time in half. It should now last about 90 minutes.
Spokesman Jeff Squibb says the fair would rather see a marching band than more politicians.
The Twilight Parade starts the fair off every year. The fair runs from Friday through Aug. 22.
