Man airlifted after fiery I-90 crash
A man was airlifted to a nearby hospital following a fiery crash on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway near Beverly Road Tuesday night.
Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Juan Morales said the man had sustained nonlife threatening burn injuries.
A car and semi-trailer truck were involved in the crash, Morales said. Both vehicles caught on fire.
Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Greg Minx said a passenger vehicle had broken down eastbound on the tollway. The driver was trying to push it out of the roadway when a semi-truck ran into it from behind.
The driver ran out of the way before the truck hit his vehicle, but he was struck by debris and received minor burns, Minx said.
The truck's driver and co-driver jumped out of the semi before the collision, Minx said. They were taken to Saint Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates for minor leg injuries.
All lanes of the tollway were closed to allow the helicopter to land, Minx said. The helicopter left around 11 p.m.
As of 11:30 p.m., the westbound lanes of I-90 were open, but the eastbound lanes remained closed.
