Chicago couple accused of housing discrimination
A Chicago couple has been accused by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development of discriminating against a black couple who was trying to buy their home.
The department alleges Daniel and Adrienne Sabbia and their real estate agent, Jeffrey Lowe, violated the Fair Housing Act when they didn't follow through with an offer from George Willborn and his wife, Peytyn. Willborn is a radio personality and comedian.
HUDS says the home in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood was on the market for nearly two years when the Willborns toured it in January. After the couple accepted the $1.7 million counteroffer from the Sabbias, the sellers didn't sign a sales contract. HUD said Lowe told the Willborns' agent the Sabbias took the home off the market.
The Sabbias, Lowe nor Prudential Rubloff Properties immediately returned telephone calls Tuesday for comment.
