Batavia man charged with beating man who drove on his lawn

A Batavia man has been charged with felony aggravated battery, accused of beating a driver who drove over his lawn.

Kenneth D. Rogers, 38, of the 1000 block of North Avenue, is in Kane County jail on $25,000 bail as of Tuesday afternoon.

Batavia police say Rogers was sitting outside of his home at 12:50 a.m. Monday when a man attempting to turn in to an apartment complex across the street, drove instead onto the parkway and the lawn of the house where Rogers lives.

Rogers then punched the driver in the face, pulled him out of the vehicle and continued to punch him in the face, according to police.

The man was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva with "substantial" injuries, which required surgery to repair, according to Batavia police.

Police say Rogers told them the driver swung at him first.

Rogers was arrested at 11:15 p.m. Aug. 9, police said.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
