Provena St. Joseph names Scogna as president

Officials at Provena St. Joseph Hospital didn't have to look too far for their next leader.

The board at Provena Health permanently appointed Stephen O. Scogna as St. Joseph's president and CEO.

Scogna, 51, had served as interim president since February after William Brown left to pursue an undisclosed business opportunity.

Provena leaders had praise for Scogna, who had served on the board of directors for the past three years and has 25 years of health care experience.

"In considering him for this role, our search committee was continually impressed by Steve's exceptional critical thinking and interpersonal skills," Guy R. Wiebking, President and CEO of Provena Health, said in a prepared statement. "Additionally, Steve is an exceptional ministerial leader and certainly embodies Provena's mission, vision and values."

Scogna, who was not available for comment, joined Provena Health in May 2003 as Regional Vice President of Finance. He came from the Frankford Health Care System, a member of the Jefferson Health System in Philadelphia.

He earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Villanova University and is a certified public accountant. He also is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
